Heyo, let me start by saying that
Hiiiii, I've been gone a really long time, mostly because felt like I had to match the content of deep thoughts I'd been putting here. So, to combat that, I'm doing a new little series called I Want To Tell You About where I'm just gonna infodump about something I like.
So let's start with
I Want To Tell You About: Junie and the Hut Friends
If you know about me you know that my tastes in music are....odd. I listen to number stations for fun, a lot, all the goddamn time! I'm not trying to say "oh, I'm so so unique" or anything, just....I like it all, but I REALLY like it odd.
I also like music that has a shit ton of heart in it. That doesn't necessarily mean sappy, or sad, or loving, but you can tell the person had fun, and loves doing what they do.
Enter Junie and the Hut Friends
I first found out about them on TikTok (right?) when their song "Drown Me!" became a trending audio for a hot second. While this isn't what sucked me in (that goes to "Bloody! Bloody!"), the lyrics and just...general 'vibe' of it all stuck with me for a long while.
Junie has a very interesting sense of aesthetic to me, with a lot of what I would call "body horror via editing". You know it's all editing, very obviously, but that's what makes it unique, memorable, and especially creepy.
"Editing horror"?
People always use 'Unpolished' as a term of....condescendtion at best, but I really, genuinely mean it when I say that the unpolished feel of Junie and the Hut Friends is why I am so invested in the music and style of it all. I've listened to "When it Rains" at least 3 times a day since it came out. I show these songs to so many people, it's so rad to me. And I think I know why: the vibes. Clearly, this is fun. It's spooky fun, it's bouncy fun, it's weird fun, it's all got heart, emotions, feelings, a rough aesthetic by design
